Chef Matt Warburton
reaches the 2010 finals

Head chef Matt Warburton has been with us since the beginning and has built a talented team of young chefs hungry for success and recognition within the area and beyond.
Born in Cambridge, Matt re located to the Midlands at the age of 9 when his father moved jobs.
Matt’s first experience of catering was at Swinfen Hall Hotel as a pot washer while attending college with the intention of joining the Police force. That idea was soon put on the back burner by local chef and restaurateur Paul Gilmore who took Matt to Birmingham to his eponymous restaurant in the jewellery quarter.
After many years working at several local restaurants, including The Fairlawn’s Hotel in Aldridge and further afield at the renowned Michelin starred St Martin’s on the isle on the Isles of Scilly, Matt took on his first Head Chefs job at the Verzon Hotel in Ledbury, Herefordshire. Soon afterwards the hotel was awarded 2 rosettes.
Matt then moved to Stow on the Wold in the Cotswolds as executive chef of Concept Hotels incorporating The Royalist Hotel (the oldest hotel in England) and the Grapevine hotel. Both hotels achieved 2 rosette recognition within the first 12 months.
A seasoned competitor on the Chef circuit Matt has won numerous awards including Herefordshire chef of the year 2005, Gloucestershire chef of the year 2007 and Taste of Staffordshire Restaurant of the year 2008.
